Vincent Warnier

Concert organist, teacher, and titular organist of Saint-Étienne-du-Mont in Paris, Vincent Warnier is one of France’s most prominent musicians. He pursued extensive studies at the Strasbourg Conservatoire and then at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP), where he was awarded numerous first prizes, studying with Daniel Roth, André Stricker, Michel Chapuis, and Marie-Claire Alain, among others. After winning the First Grand Prize for Interpretation at the Grand Prix de Chartres in 1992, he embarked on an international concert career, sharing with audiences his passion for the organ repertoire and for improvisation. His recordings, which reflect his eclectic musical interests, have regularly received critical acclaim, including a Diapason d’Or for his complete recording of the works of his predecessor at Saint-Étienne-du-Mont, Maurice Duruflé, as well as for his recital of twentieth-century French music. Organist-in-residence with the Auditorium-Orchestre national de Lyon during the 2013/2014 season, he recorded an album devoted to Saint-Saëns with the Orchestre national de Lyon and Leonard Slatkin for Naxos. He is also titular organist of Verdun Cathedral.

Vincent Warnier regularly performs with ensembles such as the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre national de France, Orchestre national de Lille, Orchestre national de Lyon, Orchestre de l’Opéra de Lyon, Les Siècles, and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, under conductors including Daniel Harding, Christoph Eschenbach, Evgeny Svetlanov, Leonard Slatkin, Emmanuel Krivine, James Conlon, François-Xavier Roth, Kazushi Ono, and Jun Märkl. He performed at the inaugural concerts for the organs of the Philharmonie de Paris and the Auditorium de Radio France. He also gave a highly acclaimed recital at the Philharmonie de Paris devoted to Olivier Messiaen’s monumental Livre d’orgue, before embarking on an extensive tour of the United States.

A sought-after teacher and lecturer and holder of the agrégation in musicology, Vincent Warnier was appointed professor of organ at the École normale de musique de Paris in June 2021. For several seasons, he contributed to the production of programmes for France Musique, and together with Renaud Machart he wrote a book devoted to the great organists of the twentieth century, published by Buchet-Chastel.
